So sorry to see this go. One of the best things I ever got to go to and see grow (and even brush up my open source chops building once or twice). 🍩💙🍩

Hi friends! Quick update: We moved our money to @opencollect (opencollective.com/donutjs). We’re saving funds for future events, but had more than we need so we donated to Warm Springs Community Action Team (wscat.org) and Black Resilience Fund (@blackresiliency).

Under normal circumstances, we would be half an hour into Donut.js right now. We hope you’re all doing okay! We miss you all a lot and can’t wait to see you again. Stay safe, wear a mask, wash your hands, and if you can find a way to eat donuts, do so. 🍩‿🍩

Good afternoon, donut friends. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Donut.js will be on hiatus until it’s safe to meet up again. We will not be meeting in March or April or until stated otherwise. Be safe, be careful, and we’ll enjoy a donut with you soon.

Lexa Whitehurst shared her story of neurodivergence in tech and how we can nurture a diverse tech environment. When we say “culture fit,” we should seek to add folks who *complement* the existing environment, rather than replicating those already in it, and then *support* them!

Next up, @kassman_ben tells us about using machine learning to provide transcriptions for podcasts. Here, he shows us a side-by-side diff of an automated transcription and the same transcript corrected by hand. The automated version is 94% correct!

And Ben reminds us: • JS can alleviate a lot of the costs preventing people from making their podcasts accessible. • Automation isn’t perfect, and accessibility effects still require human intervention! • Involve people in your accessibility project who will be affected by it!
