Cross-platform engineer trying to make native app dev as pleasant as web dev

Great to see Big Mobile admit that alternative app stores can be a good & safe thing for the ecosystem! “[This change] gives users more ways to easily and safely access the apps and games they love.” android-developers.googleblo…

State of Subscription Apps 2026 is out and React Native apps are doing pretty well: • 2.5% conversion from download → paid (vs 2.0% Native, 1.8% Flutter) • $0.51 revenue per install at Day 60 (vs $0.31/$0.29) • $31.78 yearly value per payer (~50% higher than Native/Flutter)

Well it started at 214/864 (25%) Yoga tests passed. After 8 hours of saying "keep going" over and over, it's now at 739/864 (86%). To what extent it has just cheated the tests rather than actually doing the job properly, I don't know yet, but hey, we might be getting somewhere?
Taking bets 💰 I've asked Codex to create C bindings for Taffy so that it could be used as a drop-in replacement for Yoga (in order to use `display: block` in React Native). Could it work?

May be of interest to @Vjeux. I'm using an agent to create C bindings for the Taffy layout engine, with the requirement that they be drop-in compatible with Yoga's C bindings, and tested against Yoga itself. It passes 86% of Yoga's test suite so far.

On the slim chance it works, could I picture Meta merging it? Probably not, because Taffy is not bug-compatible with Yoga. But as Taffy's C bindings are still WIP, and a lot of OSS projects beyond React Native plug into Yoga, I think it could be good for something!

🖥Super excited to see Desktop mode finally launch! With the release of Android 16 QPR3 today, connected display support has reached general availability. This means you don't need to flip a Developer option to enable it - just connect a compatible Android device to an external display via USB-C, and you'll get a desktop-like multitasking experience! It's one of many new awesome features in the latest Android release, but it's one I've been looking forward to a ton. Can't wait to see its evolution!

I see GitHub isn’t testing on Safari
A little caching goes a long way at GitHub scale Since the start of the year, code view page loads under 100ms are up around 10x and climbing This is both a result of caching and a number of other frontend improvements that rolled out to 100% today

I've been checking my GitHub notifications every day for nearly two years for this PR and today it's out of draft! 🥹 It's been the basis of several conference talks, podcast episodes, and could expand React Native's ecosystem more than any other feature has in the last decade.

Now that the dust has settled, the diff is a lot less intimidating
When I said Node-API support is going to be "the most consequential change to React Native since JSI and New Architecture", let me show you the stats on this PR

I'm skeptical of agentic programming, but Dj's really been changing my mind. He's been showing me the ropes, too. Can't wait to share what we've been cooking up! 👨‍🔬🌐👨‍🔬
GPT‑5.3‑Codex is something else 🐐 The agents got a little carried away and we ended up with a memory leak. No problem, just hand them some homework and it's solved in 15 minutes 😎 Blown away. Once this is all in MCP, we won't even need a human in the loop

Yesterday: refactored the entire codebase. Today: Dart can now call Apple's Virtualization.Framework natively. Cloning a 21GB macOS VM in 0.5s (APFS CoW), booting it, and SSH-ing in — all from Dart. Next up: building the orchestrator. Imagine spinning up macOS VMs via REST API. That's where OpenCI is heading. 🚀 #CICD #DevOps #Dart #Flutter #FFI #OPENCI

Impressed by @pwoody_inv’s poster yesterday at #ReactTokyo Festival. He made a React app to do stock market analysis to work out which stocks he should buy/sell each day. And he’s not even a developer! He’s a trader and prompted a whole full-stack app 👏
