Cross-platform engineer trying to make native app dev as pleasant as web dev

I went to great efforts to photograph the cake properly
My girlfriend baked me a surprise birthday cake with all my favourite stuff on it 😍 It's got Node.js, Expo, Callstack, Microsoft, NativeScript, and React Native, all in marzipan! Close-ups attached 🧵

I’m ashamed to say that this makes Rust far more readable to me
did you know that @touchHLE is written in uhh.... Objective-Rust?

The Microsoft slice. It's four layers of gluten-free (I'm 34) Victoria sponge, spread with clotted cream and raspberry jam. And everything else is marzipan 🥹 It goes without saying, the cake is very tasty, and I'm very thankful!

Inside of the cake. I went straight for the Microsoft slice as it was so colourful.

… And a delicious React Native logo!

There's some XML on the back! (Apparently the syntax-highlighting was my dad's suggestion)

Gorgeous (marzipan) typography on the NativeScript + Callstack logos 🤤

This is the side where you can best see Node.js and Expo🤩 Blown away by the freehand Node.js logo – this is all marzipan, by the way, the MacBook included! No fondant.

Synchronous TextField coming soon in Expo UI! This would enable JS controlled synchronous flicker free TextInputs with React native.

All this could be overlooked if the code were open-source and we could inspect it for ourselves. But on top of their pathetic efforts to document any of its behaviour, it's completely closed-source and proprietary.

So fucking annoyed with how piss-poor Apple docs are on anything related to audio systems. - What thread does this callback run on? - What are all the error states? - How do you recover from them? - What's the event lifecycle? - How do you clean up resources? - Any example code?

Wait, do Flutter error logs really look like this in 2026? You have overlapping text in the stack trace and just accept it?
We’re decoupling the Material and Cupertino design libraries from the core Flutter framework 🙌 Decoupling will empower the Flutter community to contribute to Material and Cupertino WITHOUT having to worry about how your contribution could become a regression in the framework.

It would be so fitting if @jarredsumner got the handle @js

Supporting Widevine directly in Chromium is real helpful. Not that I agree with DRM conceptually, but when I was building Smart TV web apps, it sucked when I could only test on genuine TV browsers instead of desktop, purely due to DRM. Makes more TV possible in Electron, too!

“#1 best seller in bird biology” okay but surely that’s quite a narrow category of books right

More web more better
It’s finally happening ✨ Bringing calc() support to React Native. width: calc(100% - 40px) just feels right.

A discerning engineer pointing out how a dev’s latitude and longitude values are unreasonably precise for URL params

An opensource and cross-platform re-implementation of SwiftUI 👏 I believe @Baconbrix might like this!
A share of current architecture of OpenSwiftUI. 🔴 Red comp are Darwin-only. 🟢 Green and 🟡 Yellow comp are cross-platform (light green indicates WIP). Thanks to the amazing work from @jcmosc and @tyxu233, OpenSwiftUI can now run on macOS without any private frameworks.
