Android UI is becoming Compose-first. Expo UI has the primitives needed to bring any Compose view to React Native.
Here's a list of the components shipped with Expo UI (more coming), and you can easily extend it to support your own Compose views.

To that end, Android development is now Compose-first. All new Android APIs, libraries, tools, and developer guidance will be built exclusively for Jetpack Compose. Legacy View components (in the android.widget package) and View-based Jetpack libraries (like Fragments, RecyclerView, and ViewPager) are now in maintenance mode. They will receive only critical bug fixes, and no new features.

(4) Expo CLI takes a checksum of the tarball you prebuild your template from, and uses that downstream in an internal config plugin (not sure why yet, but maybe @kudochien knows). If you have a multi-template model, you'd no longer have a single tarball, thus no single checksum.

(3) Expo uses a multi-template approach in a sense. Your "ios" and "android" folders come from bare-minimum, even if you created the app using blank-typescript.
I need to decide whether to mirror that same decision or just include native folders inside of my blank-typescript.

(2) I began with a multi-template approach so that I could use the Expo and Microsoft templates as-is without maintaining my own. But this causes problems with order of merging templates. When they each have their own package.json, metro.config.js (etc.), which should win?

Challenges include:
(1) Expo templates find-and-replace a "HelloWorld" placeholder string. React Native Windows ones not only use a different placeholder ("MyApp"), but also some additional factory logic that's more than just a string replace – they run actual Node.js scripts.

I've been chipping away at implementing `expo prebuild` for desktop. There are challenges every step of the way.
Up until now, I've been managing the Expo, RNM, and RNW templates separately, but I decided a unified template would solve a lot of issues. So here's the WIP!

Then just before the Diffs release Linear held a team offsite in Iceland. I jumped on the plane, and for glorious 3 hours I had no AI and no Internet - and I figured it out.
Instead of asking how to get rid of the style recalcs and layouts, I started to wonder - why are they taking so long? Previously I assumed it's caused by the sheer number of elements that rendering the diffs added to the page, but I quickly disproved it. The browser is actually very fast, most of the time. Yes, the complex tree exaggerated the problem, but it was not the root cause for slowness.
It was slow CSS selectors. It quickly became apparent when I profiled with "CSS selector stats" on, and then disabled the top 10 slowest selectors.

This reflects the transition to the React Foundation: an independent foundation dedicated to the long-term stewardship of the React ecosystem.
