In this week's Code Club we got a little magical, and created a fullstack Unicorn adoption website! We begin with the backend, which was created using Node.js, TypeScript and SQL.
We did some debugging, and learned a bit more about accessibility (thank you "Liz").Thank you to @madcampos and his celebratory unicorn headband, and to his mods "daleee", "Matt" "Jackson" and Sami Xie , as well as everyone who joined and participated!
As the year comes to a close, we're bidding a fond farewell to Jen Chan, stepping down as Executive Director of TorontoJS. Her leadership during the pandemic years brought incredible growth and vibrancy to our community. 🌟
Jen's legacy includes:
🌐 Pioneering online events
🤝 Navigating the return to in-person gatherings
👩💼 Mentoring new organizers
🙌 Onboarding a ton of volunteers
💰 Establishing a donation drive for self-sustainability
🚀 Organizing our infrastructure
🌀 Chaosifying our channel approach
💖 Expanding the spirit of life and love in our community
Best wishes on her next adventures!
Catch her at future events (buy her a drink at the next social! 🥂)

Goals are important, just don't lose sight of what makes you human. Don't become so ineffectual in your pursuit, that you miss out on the human experience.
Last month, we held a Storybook meetup with our awesome community in Toronto. And now we have the recordings of the talks! 🎉
Up first: here's Stephanie Zeng from @rangleio, showing how you can supercharge development with Storybook 🔥

the slowest stuff i've seen is always tied to an N+1 query that explodes when N gets to a number you didn't plan for
example: fetch all users and their associated projects as json → oops, turns out there can be a lot of both

It's kind of insane watching @torontojs behind the scenes these days 🤯 Massively more sophisticated than the early days
Just look at how many folks are working on it today: torontojs.com/volunteers
Each one of them cares deeply about elevating others ❤️ Thank you all!
Over the next week, catch me in 🇨🇦🇺🇸 👋🏽
@torontojs on Thursday: guild.host/events/react-grap…@ReactSummit NYC next week Monday 🙌🏽
