Use optional parameters instead of defining multiple overload signatures for the same return type

Following up on the ordering scenario - implementation signatures must also be general
Implementation signatures should be generic enough to include the overload signatures, otherwise, TS won't accept the overload signature as being incompatible

Do not place generic overload signatures before specific signatures - ordering matters here!!
TS reads the signatures from top to bottom, thus an earlier generic overload is going to be called instead of a later one that's more specific
