You sort of can get around it, implementing validation to avoid unsupported HTTP methods to reach that route, or creating mappers

I personally don't like to declare conditionals inside Next.js API routes in order to validate methods
I think it's not scalable if you have multiple variations for a single endpoint
Would be cool to configure this per route, sort of like a mapper, or maybe on the file system
