Being "affected" wasn't on my bingo card for 2023, but last week I was laid off along with the rest of the @partykit_io team.

I thank @jevakallio and @sylwiavargas from the bottom of my heart for their invaluable contributions and friendship, we wouldn’t have gotten so far so fast without them. They’re absolutely incredible people and I know they’ll go on to do amazing things.

Honestly every day at work when I see one page I am thinking "damn this would suck so much if we had to convert it back to getServerSideProps". So glad it's server components.
The new paradigm not only cleaned up the code a lot, but it allowed it to grow without getting messier.

I agree with a lot of the overarching points here, but I also think this article includes subtle misconceptions and some bad faith assumptions. This stood out:
"However, as Vercel has been buying up so many of the React team members"
Describing people as bought? So many?
I get asked about this a lot (especially since the launch of Epic Web), so I've written it down.

Had an amazing time at @ReactAdvanced! Great to finally put some faces to the profile pictures so to speak.
It started out strong with @markdalgleish diving deep into the server component rendering pipeline. Then @ephemjs nicely followed with a very practical migration guide.

Such a great conference! So many great talks, met so many fantastic people and a gorgeous venue.
