As Parler disappears from the Android and Ios app stores and faces being kicked off of Amazon's (and other) clouds, people who worry about monopolized corporate control over speech are divided over What It Means. 1/

With the replacement of Flash by HTML5, programmers were given the roles that designers previously had. The new tools didn't have any of the old useful code-less features. I still agree that "the open web won" and yet.

I spent a day writing an implementation of two-grams in Rust and a day optimizing it. Then I made the same thing in JS and it was five times faster. 🤷 I'm guessing it's possible to make the Rust version faster than JS, but not without much more investigation.

What are some performance hot spots in JS libs that you use? Babel? Eslint?
Me, first week in Rust: Holy cow I have to deal with all of the corner cases? Sheesh. Me after four weeks of Rust: My JS code is a big lie. I'm not dealing the any corner cases! 😱
Loving the Result<T, E> pattern in Rust. It's like Node before frontend patterns made all errors back into exceptions. Bummer that happened.

I'm following this topic closely, if only because I hate the weaknesses of human-generated JS; it will slow down or even flat out break a page. I run a website with close to 0% JS and it's resilient, fast and secure. However not interactive, so it doesn't really say anything.
