Cross-platform engineer trying to make native app dev as pleasant as web dev

I don't know how anyone develops on Windows, I am really trying my earnest best here, but it's like coding with your keyboard covered in treacle

Amazed to hear that Ladybird browser is working on Sainsbury’s support 🥹 As a UK citizen and supermarket enjoyer, this will surely be the best browser on which to purchase Triple Belgian Chocolate Cookies 🍪

I was theorycrafting this 3 years ago too 😄 Expo inline modules involve some kind of file watching, though. Do they support SwiftUI hot reloading, I wonder?
I built react-native-colo-loco 3 years ago to do this ... I'm glad to see it land in Expo SDK 56, so React Native devs can co-locate their Kotlin / Swift native code alongside their TypeScript!

This API alone is enough to build your own NativeScript-like experience! 🤩 I’ve had a play with the similarly named (but 12-years-old userland library) node-ffi, and my main experience of it was it frequently breaking between versions. Really glad to see this finally in core!
Node.js 26 launched yesterday and tomorrow 26.0.1 lands with `node:ffi` support 🎉

SwiftUI is a framework designed entirely around demos. Looks incredible in a 4 minute WWDC segment but falls apart the moment you ask it to render real content at 60fps like every other UI toolkit

With v20 going EOL, all Node.js LTS versions can run TypeScript out of the box. There is no reason to keep using plain JavaScript for new projects.

Fun fact: React Native Gesture Handler was ported to NativeScript 7 years ago by Martin Guillon. I believe most of the native source code was used as-is and there was just a "last mile" to adapt it to NativeScript's view system. Being a userland library made this port feasible!
What's stopping @reactnative to just take reanimated and gesture-handlers into core? These are one of the very few things i wished were just shipped as a core RN components, so we don't mess Pressables and don't have to educate every web engineer on which one is `right`.

I just found out about Lobsters, a sort of Hacker News clone that uses an "invitation tree" system to fight bots. In order to do anything on the site (upvote, comment, submit links, etc.), a human needs to vouch for you. Invite a bunch of bots? Your whole tree can be banned.

I think at this rate, Linear should just start competing directly with GitHub by hosting code and offering CI. They have great market fit for it, and enough world-class engineering talent to pull it off. (And while we’re on the topic, compete with Slack too, please)
Introducing Linear Releases. Manage software releases directly from Linear. Track the deployment environment, version, and status of every issue to give team members and agents your full deployment context.
