Recently I told you I joined @expo — here’s more about why.
Seth is different. He can zoom way out and see all the layers all the way through a product/business/team. He knows what to say. And what to build. And how to build it. What's possibly most impressive is that he delivers all this perspective with warmth and joy. It's infectious. We're lucky to have him. His note about this decision to join Expo will give you a small, delightful sample of what it's like to work with him ↓

YES we need Expo on Desktop. Go to App.js Conf and check out Jamie's talk!
I'll be presenting a talk, "Expo on Desktop", in-person at App.js Conf in Kraków, May 27th-29th! 🎙️ In this age of Electron apps, I really want to see more usage of React Native macOS and Windows; and I think Expo can get us there.

Just rebased my branch delivering Expo Fingerprint / Build Cache Providers support for react-native-macos over 2,220 commits of changes and very glad there was only a small merge conflict

More reasons to try out React Native Desktop 😎

With computer use on macOS, Codex can now use any app by seeing, clicking, and typing with its own cursor. It runs in the background without taking over your computer, working on tasks like frontend iteration, app testing, or any workflow that doesn't expose an API.

Okay this is *crazy* An agent running entirely on iPad* that can control any app

Meanwhile, look at this bad boy. Now, technically, this is not the macOS logo, but the Finder logo. macOS *does* have the same problem as iOS (number-based, mountain-based, and cat-based logos), but you can always fall back to this.

Whenever I'm preparing for a talk on cross-platform app development, it brings me despair that iOS has no recognisable logo

I joined Expo.
For years @sethwebster led the React team at @Meta - in that time React became the standard for web. Today we are thrilled to announce that Seth has joined Expo as our Chief Developer Evangelist. His vision, talent, and experience will make a massive impact on Expo and on the whole world of mobile development. Today is a good day. Thanks to @thenewstack and @psawers for the interview ↓

Now I'm not saying the react-native/Hermes team is working on adding multi-threading/Workers to #reactnative, but 𝙰𝚛𝚛𝚊𝚢𝙱𝚞𝚏𝚏𝚎𝚛::𝚍𝚎𝚝𝚊𝚌𝚑𝚎𝚍() is something you'd only need to implement Workers 👀👀👀

I've always had to be careful using Error types when reusing web code in React Native, so this is a great help 👏 TypedArrays is very exciting, too. @mrousavy said that his ArrayBuffers in Nitro Modules are zero-copy, so is this the first time zero-copy has been possible in JSI?

Expandable table rows enable a macOS Finder-like combination of a tree and a table, integrating with keyboard navigation, selection, and drag and drop.
