The plot twist here is that this demo was done in iOS 3.2, which means the text was almost certainly laid out and rendered using WebKit. So this is not some feature iOS has had natively for 15 years; it’s something the web platform has supported all along!
apple did this on an iPad 15 years ago btw.

Okay, fine, I'll do one Here is a native macOS AppKit app using TextKit exclusion paths (not pretext) to exclude Chika, while she dances over some rich text. It's fully editable, and she will happily dance over any new text you write
My dear front-end developers (and anyone who’s interested in the future of interfaces): I have crawled through depths of hell to bring you, for the foreseeable years, one of the more important foundational pieces of UI engineering (if not in implementation then certainly at least in concept): Fast, accurate and comprehensive userland text measurement algorithm in pure TypeScript, usable for laying out entire web pages without CSS, bypassing DOM measurements and reflow

Not gonna lie, it's kinda hard to type while Chika is trampling over everything

CSS nesting is now Baseline 🎉 Write nested selectors directly in CSS — just like Sass, but natively. .card { color: black; &:hover { color: blue; } .title { font-weight: bold; } } No preprocessor needed. Learn more 👇 developer.mozilla.org/en-US/…

I like how the accommodation is simple (and you’d have unlimited time to speak with, and hack with, other attendees). Though I do think it’d be a lot easier to convince your company to pay for your ticket to “TanStack Conf” than “TanStack Cruise” 😅
Instead of doing a TanStack Conf, I'm seriously considering inviting everyone to just meet up on a Caribbean-bound cruise ship. It'd be cheaper in every way, you could bring as many family/friends as you want, and instead of wasting time on talks/booths, we can just chat endlessly about JS/TS/Web over unlimited freestyle soda machines, soft-serve ice-cream and mini golf. JAY JAY JAY @jmeistrich Synchronous, deterministic measurement FOR EXAMPLE OF CELLS IN A LIST without forcing a layout pass..? 👀👀👀

1. Occlusion (virtualization) of hundreds of thousands of text boxes, each with differing height, without DOM measurement, therefore simplifying the visibility check to a single linear cache-less traversal of heights, scrolling & resizing at 120fps chenglou.me/pretext/masonry/

I'm deciding what sort of icons to use on Birchdocs, my personal docs website (made in @fuma_nama's Fumadocs). Left: Lucide Right: Lucide + Simple Icons With Simple Icons, we can use actual brand icons. It's easier to discern technologies, but it's a lot less unified and cute.

That's nuts. I love infrastructure so much. I wouldn't want it to subtract from passenger trains, but hopefully that's not the long-term plan.
On 23rd March 2026, Japan launches the world's first freight-only Shinkansen, converting a former passenger bullet train into a high-speed cargo carrier by removing all seats to maximize storage space. A total game changer for freight transport.
