An open-source framework for building Web, Mobile, and Desktop applications ☄️

So, @fireship_dev just put Meteor.js in a "when open source fails" video. And they're (mostly) wrong. I work in the Meteor ecosystem. I need to talk about what actually happened, because the real story is way more interesting than "it faded away." A thread 🧵

Something we love about the Meteor community: when you ask a beginner question and... get a real answer. Often within hours. No gatekeeping. No "just Google it." Culture is a feature.

Meteor is backed by Tiny Capital. Not a VC chasing 10x growth. A holding company that operates sustainable businesses. 5-year funding commitment in 2023. We're not pivoting. We're building.

Galaxy's team got ~3x faster local startup after wrapping non-critical async work with Meteor's new deferrable APIs. Three new functions: → Meteor.deferDev() – defers in dev/test → Meteor.deferProd() – defers in production → Meteor.deferrable() – full control Available now in Meteor 3.4.

Hot take: most apps don't need real-time. But when you DO need it, adding it later is painful. Meteor gives you real-time by default. Turn it off where you don't need it. Way easier than the opposite.

Meteor 3.5-beta is here and it’s all about SCALABILITY! 🚀 The game-changer? @MongoDB Change Streams support is officially in testing. 🌊 Why this matters: 40% More Connections: Benchmarks show a massive jump in concurrent users (from 1200 to 1680 VUs). No More OOM: Say goodbye to "Out of Memory" crashes during high traffic spikes. Efficiency: Moving away from heavy Oplog tailing to a modern, request-based streaming architecture. Meteor.js continues to prove it’s the king of real-time reactivity, now with the professional-grade stability your production apps need. 🛠️ Check out the full benchmarks and technical breakdown: forums.meteor.com/t/meteor-3… #MeteorJS #JavaScript #NodeJS #MongoDB #OpenSource #WebDev

Meteor 3.4 + RSPack = Webpack plugin ecosystem. • Bundle analyzers • Compression plugins • Custom loaders If it works with Webpack, it probably works with Meteor.

Your Meteor app startup feels slow even after upgrading to 3.4? You might be blocking boot with async work that doesn't need to run immediately. New deferrable functions let you say: "this work matters — just not right now." deferDev, deferProd, deferrable → faster DX, same reliability. Read more about it: blog.galaxycloud.app/faster-…

Why RSPack for Meteor 3.4? • Rust-based (fast like SWC) • Webpack compatible (ecosystem access) • Zero config default • Tree shaking built-in • HMR that actually works We evaluated Vite. RSPack won on compatibility.
