A Brigadier General who, in 12 years, rose from enlisted soldier to corps commander. A military leader who understands what soldier-centric command truly means, and does everything in his power to provide his personnel with everything they need: from training and logistics to detailed operational planning and the development of a comprehensive ecosystem around the unit that exists to serve its fighters. An officer who leads by example, demonstrating that the new generation of Ukraine's military has leaders capable of rapidly and effectively reforming the armed forces, rooting out the Soviet legacy, and outdated approaches. A man without whom Azov's history cannot be written. The one who made Azov what it is known as around the world: a unit respected by allies and feared by enemies. Today, Hero of Ukraine, Commander of First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine, Brigadier General Denys "Redis" Prokopenko, turns 35. "Redis" has proven time and again that he is willing to do whatever it takes to preserve his personnel's lives. He risked his own life for his fighters during the darkest days in the unit's history because "risk is the business of the brave," and he stepped up to bear responsibility at the most critical moments. The personnel of First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine congratulate the commander on his birthday and wish him strength, endurance, and success in our shared cause: the defense of Ukraine. We stand with you always, ready to carry out every mission assigned to us. Happy birthday, Commander!

Bronchovascular texture pattern on quantitative CT reveals airway and vascular remodeling in post-COVID-19 Lungs 🚨"Your lungs still remember COVID, 3–4 years later." ➡️Interesting USA study(pulmonary function tests (PFTs) and inspiratory/expiratory CT scan), ➡️Longitudinal study of 80 post-COVID survivors (81% pre-Alpha strain) scanned at ~5 months (V1) and 3–4 years (V2) post-infection vs 78 healthy controls, ➡️Pulmonary function tests mostly normal, but persistently lower DLCO at both time points, ➡️Early abnormalities (functional small airway disease % and ground-glass opacity %) largely resolved by V2, ➡️BUT, persistent structural remodelling at 3–4 years: →Increased bronchovascular texture percentage, airway narrowing + wall thickening, shift from large to small airways, and small-to-large vessel redistribution, →a signature of microvascular pathology, consistent with the known endothelial tropism of SARSCoV2 and the persistent perfusion abnormalities seen in long COVID! ➡️These changes correlated with significantly worse quality of life (SGRQ) and ongoing symptoms (fatigue, cough, brain fog, hypertension), ➡️Reinfections / Vaccination: The study does not address reinfections or vaccination status at all, ‼️So, AGAIN, even years after a single COVID infection, lungs show irreversible structural scarring that early markers missed, directly tied to real, lasting symptoms(L0ngC0vid)! #AvoidSars2 #AvoidReinfections link.springer.com/article/10…

Every year, Europe lets 10,000s of its citizens die from heat because of its ideological rejection of the century-old technology of air conditioning With US-level air conditioning, Europe could prevent about 26,000 deaths in a year like 2022 rogerpielkejr.substack.com/p…

The EU Commission in Brussels has shut off airco, but only for the lower floors, where the lower ranks work: “It’s like feudalism,” a Commission official working on a lower level of the Berlaymont, granted anonymity to speak freely, told POLITICO on Friday, referring to the fact that upper floors housing commissioners got to keep their AC on. A second official agreed it was a “disgrace.” politico.eu/article/eu-commi…

"Trafficked all over Britain, raped by “hundreds and hundreds of men”. Gangsters occupy her home, pay her bills to control her. Forced to give birth to a child, forcibly converted to Islam, “married”, beaten daily. She became anorexic, addicted to heroin, which the gang used to control. Only years later, she managed to escape to Scotland with the help of Women’s Aid. Similar stories are repeated throughout the report. Victims describe daily rape, “red rooms” of extreme torture, inter-city trafficking and institutional mistrust that doubles their suffering." @oblakoff (from @konservatorbg) in @vocedelpatriota. lavocedelpatriota.it/en/euro…

Realization of the last few days: The Greens, the environmentalists, the ones screaming now against an obvious solution against a pressing problem (AC vs. heat) are basically a cult: "We did bad, now we need to suffer!", they scream. It's the old cult playbook, nothing else.
It all starts to makes sense when you realize degrowthers are literally opposed to life They honestly think humans are bad and humanity has to end It is the most dangerous mindset around right now and it's centered in Europe, but they don't realize they're in the grasp of it because their media feeds them this propaganda every single day I know, I'm European!

1/ Important new DRC policy: 21-day pre-travel wait for anyone leaving Ebola zones domestically or internationally. This is what can actually stop spread. Screening catches only the already-symptomatic; contact tracing chases people after they've dispersed; neither stops an exponential outbreak.

Cheaper childcare is not associated with higher fertility. In fact, it is the opposite. Countries like the US and New Zealand, where childcare is very expensive, have much higher fertility than countries like Italy, Korea, and Germany, where childcare is essentially free. 1/2
From the Economist’s own 21 countries, the more expensive childcare is, the higher the fertility rate. r =0.72. p = 0.0002. Not causal, but subsidized or cheaper childcare isn’t the answer, which I believe is what Lyman Stone’s research shows.

Defenders of child transition need to answer a basic question: What evidence would change your mind? We were told not to worry because such treatments and procedures were extremely rare. But when new data show that these treatments aren't so rare, the same defenders suddenly change their tune: the numbers are no longer reassuring because they are small; now they are reassuring because they are large. If the rates are low, that proves the panic is overblown. If the rates are high, that's evidence that access is improving. If the rates rise, that means stigma is declining. If they don't rise enough, that means barriers remain. Heads they win, tails you're a bigot. At some point, defenders of pediatric gender medicine must answer a simple question: What result would change your mind? We should have insisted on a clear answer to this question long ago, BEFORE we ever started performing these procedures on children—not AFTER the results come in, when activists have had time to devise post hoc explanations about why the latest horrific finding is actually wonderful news. Falsifiability is a basic principle of science. No claim that can be "confirmed" by every possible outcome can be called scientific. This failure to adhere to basic principles of science is made even more sinister given that kids are having their puberty stunted, fertility compromised, and healthy body parts altered or removed as a result. I love that this goal is both audacious and also extremely plausible for humanity to achieve. Much of the science is already here; we just have to roll up our sleeves for a few years and get it done.

Viruses don't need to be a fact of modern life. And you don't even need extreme measures to banish them. All you need from an engineering standpoint is to build systems to keep the effective reproduction number under 1. Do that in enough places and the virus never reaches you.
OpenAI, Anthropic, Stripe and Bill Gates are putting $500 million in funding into a new organization called Intercept. Intercept's goal is to prevent the common cold and the flu, and eventually eliminate all respiratory viruses completely.
